The rate of illegal immigration in this country remains an issue for several South Africans.
And, new Home Affairs Minister, Leon Schreiber has his work cut out for him.
Members of Parliament have lambasted his Department for, what they call, South Africa’s immigration crisis.
Schreiber had delivered his maiden Budget Vote Speech in Parliament yesterday.
The Home Affairs Department has received a boost to its budget from 9, 75 billion Rand in the 2023/24 Financial Year to 10,5 billion in the current Financial Year.
MPs want him to overhaul the immigration system and pump funds into border controls.
Action SA MP, Lerato Ngobeni, says jobs held by illegal foreign nationals should be reserved for South Africans.
Meanwhile, the IFP’s Liezl van der Merwe, says illegal migration poses a national threat to our communities.
Shamiela Fisher is currently with the Home Affairs Minister, as he conducts an oversight visit at the the Cape Town Refugee Centre in Epping.
