As Cape Town gears up for more heavy rain this weekend, city officials are continuing with efforts to try and keep informal settlements protected.

City bosses say they’ve issued more than 16-thousand so-called “flood kits” to residents to help them rebuild their homes that had been damaged a few weeks ago.

The kits are also aimed at protecting their homes from further rain damage.

The soil and waterways across Cape Town, are still quite saturated and any amount of rain can lead to more flooding.

Mayco member for Human Settlements, Carl Pophaim, says an important focus is on areas where the water will not dissipate over the next few weeks.
