Motorists might soon see even more relief at the pumps.

A Parliamentary Committee has adopted a proposal to remove the Road Accident Fund levy from the petrol price.

Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Mineral Resources and Energy also applauded the decision to drop the general fuel levy by R1,50 for the next two months. The full report on fuel pricing contains numerous recommendations, including removing VAT from LP gas.

It suggests the Ministers of Mineral Resources and Energy and Finance, should move the Road Accident Fund levy. It doesn’t, though, make it clear where that tax revenue should be collected instead.

And it’ll also take time for the proposal to pass through Parliament and become policy. So, it certainly won’t reflect in the new petrol price on Wednesday.

As of Saturday morning, the Mineral Resources and Energy Department still hasn’t announced what that new price will be.
