It’s hoped that the Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement will contain plans that will ease the financial burdens faced by South Africans.

Well, that’s what Cosatu and Fedusa, want to hear from Finance Minister, Enoch Godongwana, later today.

The unions are worried about high transport, fuel and electricity costs, in particular.

Fedusa’s Ashely Benjamin says government needs to expand the zero-rated VAT food basket….

Cosatu’s Matthew Parks says they want assurance from government, that there’ll be no retrenchments in the education sector, next year.

An economist says the Finance Minister has many factors to weigh ahead of the Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement.

Ulrich Joubert says among the top priorities in Minister Enoch Godongwana’s speech should be: the economic outlook, taxation, job creation, and the energy crisis.

He emphasises the need for progress in driving the economy forward.

He says some strides have been made since last year’s address.
