Western Cape Police Oversight and Community Safety MEC Reagen Allen says he wants answers about firearms stolen from the Mitchells Plain Police Station.

Western Cape Police Management say 15 guns and eight imitation firearms were discovered to have been stolen in November in 2023.

It’s alleged that they were taken over a period of about six months.

Police confirmed that the stolen firearms that had been confiscated in criminal cases – were destined for forensic testing at the laboratory.

And they are yet to be recovered.

Detective Constable Lubabalo Malongwe who has been linked to the crime, was dismissed and charged.

This latest incident comes seven years after a number of guns were stolen from the same station in 2017.

Allen says he has approached the provincial commissioner Thembisile Patekile to get more details about the incident.

“ It’s vital that it should be established where these alleged firearms are and that they’re immediately retrieved. Should it also be found that any of these firearms have been used to commit a crime; the one responsible for its loss or sale should also be charged to this effect”.
