The country’s headed for a crisis.
That’s according to former President Thabo Mbeki.
He spoke at the ANC Dullar Omar Region’s political outreach programme, yesterday.
The session aimed to discuss challenges facing the ANC and the country as a whole.
Mbeki lambasted government for creating false hope that our economy is growing.
He referenced government’s recent media statement about the 0.4%Â rise in employment and expansion in GDP, in the second quarter of 2024.
Mbeki says that’s not progress at all……
South Africa saw some if its most notable economic growth under Mbeki’s presidency.
The average growth rate was 4%.
In 2022, government, together with other stakeholders, drafted a social compact to revive the country’s economy.
Mbeki says government has failed to ensure that this compact is effectively implemented…….
Meanwhile, off the back of Mbeki’s comments …
Political analyst, Sanusha Naidu believes it will take a while for the economy to recover and thrive again.
Naidu says South Africans are already buckling under financial pressure…….
