Transport Minister, Fikile Mbalula, is expected to give details and updates on the relocation of Langa residents who erected shacks on the railway tracks.
This comes as Mbalula — together with Human Settlements Minister, Mmamoloko Kubayi — was set to visit the Central Line, on Tuesday.
In February, PRASA announced that some parts of the line would be operational by last month.
But, residents from the Siyahlala informal settlement are preventing work to restore the Central Line from starting.
PRASA has until the end of July to relocate the residents to other areas.
Mbalula says Kubayi’s department has provided some parcels of land.
“We have people who have encroached. With that, we are moving them away – with Mmamoloko [Kubayi] in the Department of Human Settlements. But at the same time, I’m moving people from the tracks. I’m going to show you that in Cape Town. I have recovered South to North corridors in Cape Town, through PRASA.”
