Stellenbosch University has been rocked by another human rights violation case.

Both the university and police have confirmed that a case of rape has been reported on the main campus in Stellenbosch.

It’s alleged that the incident took place on Tuesday at a residence on Victoria Street.

The 18-year-old suspect was arrested on Wednesday and made his court appearance the following day.

Police spokesperson, Frederick Van Wyk, says the matter is currently under investigation.

“The circumstances surrounding a rape, that was reported to police by a 19-year-old female victim on the 18th, are being investigated by the Stellenbosch FCS unit.”

The alleged perpetrator is said to have been suspended, pending an internal investigation.
