Police have launched a manhunt for the suspected kingpin of an illegal mining operation in Stilfontein.

The alleged ringleader, has been identified as James Neo Tshoaeli, also known as “Tiger.”

The Lesotho national, reportedly resurfaced from shaft 11 last week and managed to escape police custody.

Onesisa Khalipha reports.

Northwest Police Commissioner Patrick Asaneng has issued a stern warning, vowing that action will be taken against any officials found to have aided the escape of the suspected kingpin.

Here’s police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe.

Tiger is alleged to be a key figure in controlling underground operations in Stilfontein.

Statements from illegal miners accuse him of involvement in deaths, assaults, and torture, with police reportedly in possession of videos supporting these claims.

He is also accused of hoarding food supplies, depriving other miners.

Asaneng has labelled Tiger’s escape an embarrassment to the ongoing Vala Umgodi operation.

He has vowed to hold those responsible accountable and ensure the fugitive is captured.

Tiger is deemed dangerous and a fugitive from justice.
