Women and children advocacy group, i-Litha LaBantu says it welcomes the arrest of a man accused of murdering his spouse in Gugulethu.

The 35-year-old allegedly stabbed to death the victim at a house in the Kanana informal settlement, on Sunday.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi said police arrested and detained a 35-year-old man on a charge of murder.

“Gugulethu police responded to a complaint in the early hours of Sunday 25 June 2023. Upon arrival at a nearby medical facility, they found the body of a 35-year-old woman who sustained stab wounds to her body. The victim was declared deceased by the medical personnel. The motive for the attack is yet to be determined”.

i-Litha LaBantu spokesperson Siya Monakali has called for the strongest possible punishment against the person found guilty of this crime.

” i-Litha LaBantu is deeply saddened to hear that another woman is murdered in the Gugulethu community. We appeal to our justice system to impose the harshest of sentences on the perpetrator who committed the crime”.
