Macassar residents have agreed to suspend the protest action over prolonged power outages.

The angry citizens took to the streets this week, burning tyres and barricading several roads there.

They’re not happy with the extended power cuts.

Macassar, and several other nearby areas, have sometimes gone days without electricity.

Eskom says that’s the result of vandalised infrastructure, but the community believes that the infrastructure is old.

The Greater Macassar Civic Association says for many years they’ve been requesting Eskom to fix the old infrastructure.

Chairperson, Mark Baatjies says Eskom technicians were on-site on Tuesday.
