The defence has pointed out more inconsistencies in the testimony of the State’s star witness in the Joshlin Smith kidnapping trial.
Lorencia Lombaard returned to the stand this morning.
She broke down on the stand yesterday and later had to receive medical care, putting an abrupt end to proceedings.
A medical note, submitted to Judge Nathan Erasmus, declares her fit to continue with the trial.
Lombaard continues to be grilled today.
Advocate Fanie Harmse is, again, questioning Lombaard about her conflicting testimonies.
This includes her evidence in chief, and her statement given to the police when she turned state witness.
Lombaard has seemingly changed her tune about whether or not Kelly Smith approached a car with a sangoma inside OR whether Smith, her boyfriend and co-accused Jacquen Appollis and Joshlin approached the car.
In her response, Lombaard says she didn’t trust the police captain who took her witness statement.
Judge Nathan Erasmus interjected and pointed out to her that if that was the case – she had the right to remain silent.

Erasmus has also reminded Lombaard that she was sober-minded at the time and made the statement out of her own free will.
The trial continues on Monday.
