Vandalism at a sewer pump station in Kraaifontein, has left it unable to operate.
The pump station was set a light by arsonists over the weekend.
The City of Cape Town says the electrical and mechanical equipment needed for a pump station to function has been destroyed.
Subsequently, the damage has resulted in sewer overflows and flooding throughout Wallacedene.
The City’s Zahid Badroodien says this has put an already vulnerable community at risk of more, and worse, system failure.
“I do want to appeal to anyone who has information, to report this crime to the nearest police station or to make use of 021 480 7700. Any successful information, that leads to an arrest, may benefit from a reward.”
