Parliament is unlikely to pursue its probe into former Justice Minister, Thembi Simelane in matters related to VBS Mutual Bank.

In September last year, the Portfolio Committee on Justice, summoned Simelane before Parliament.

This followed allegations that she received a kickback from a company that was apparently involved in illicit transactions with the now defunct bank, during her time as Polokwane Mayor.
Simelane, vehemently denies the allegations.

The committee was meant to determine if there was a conflict of interest regarding Simelane’s responsibility towards the NPA.

Simelane was redeployed to Human Settlements and, as such, the matter won’t proceed.
