Western Cape High Court Judge Judith Cloete has described the man who murdered – UWC student Jesse Hess – as a disturbed – and dangerous – individual.
On Tuesday, David Van Boven was sentenced to life imprisonment – for the murder of the teenager and her grandfather – Chris Lategan.
The attack happened in Parow nearly three years ago.
He was no stranger to the law at the time – as he was on parole for prior offences committed including rape and robbery.
The National Prosecuting Authority’s Eric Ntabazalila says the prosecutor and investigating officer – must be commended for their efforts – in ensuring justice.
“David Van Boven, was sentenced to two life terms and 31 years imprisonment, subsequent his conviction on two counts of murder, two counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances, sexual assault and fraud. His co-accused Tasliem Ambrose was sentenced to six years in prison following his conviction on two counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances”.
