Schools in the Western Cape reopened on Tuesday after the winter break.
But it has been a holiday to forget for some families in gang-infested areas in Cape Town.
Several gang-related shootings made the period unsafe for children in gang-riddled communities.
During the school break, a 7-year-old girl was shot and wounded in Wesbank. She’s still in a critical condition in hospital.
A 9-year-old boy was shot in the head in Manenberg.
He died in hospital.
A child was also wounded in a shooting in Hanover Park.
