Police watchdog, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), has confirmed that it has launched an investigation into the alleged manhandling of Action Society’s Ian Cameron.
However, the organisation has refused to disclose information — saying the probe is at an early stage.
Last week, Cameron was kicked out of the meeting discussing policing and crime issues in Gugulethu and Nyanga.
It’s alleged that he was removed from the gathering after he apparently repeatedly interrupted the meeting.
Cameron says he received a response from IPID.
“This morning we received confirmation that the complaint that myself and Action Society laid with IPID had been received, and they are busy investigating the matter regarding the ill conduct of the South African police service members last week in Gugulethu.”
