The State says it’s waiting for more evidence in the New Somerset Hospital triple murder case.

This follows Jean-Paul Malgas’ first appearance in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

He is accused of killing a police constable and two patients at the hospital.

During court proceedings, it was also revealed that Malgas is a former cop and that he’s said to be dealing with severe depression.

The National Prosecuting Authority’s Eric Ntabazalila, says the case was postponed to 30 June for further investigation.

“The accused told the court, that he is not going to apply for bail. The court ordered that no pictures of the accused must be taken, as an identity parade will still need to be conducted. The State also advised the court, that it is still waiting for the postmortem report, ballistic report and witness statements.”
