The group of homeless people living outside the Castle of Good Hope, have less than a month to find a new home.

The Western Cape High Court has granted an eviction order to the Public Works and Infrastructure Department, to remove them.

The group must vacate the premises by the 17th of October 2024.

Here’s Public Works and Infrastructure Minister, Dean MacPherson.

The group had been illegally occupying a portion of land outside the Heritage Site since the COVID-19 lockdown.

For months, the City of Cape Town has been calling on the department to take action as the matter has been affecting tourism.

Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis has welcomed the court order.
