The spate of killings in gang-riddled Hanover Park has raised even more concerns for community leaders.

On Saturday, three people were shot and killed in the area.

A 33-year-old man was gunned down by unknown suspects in Lugano Court.

“SAPS members attended a complaint of shooting on their arrival at the scene they found the body of a male with multiple gunshot wounds on his upper body and was declared dead on the scene by ambulance personnel on the scene. Circumstances surrounding this shooting incident are under investigation”, said police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk.

Then – just a few hours later – a 51-year-old woman and a 41-year-old man were also shot and killed in Surdown Walk.

“Philippi police are investigating a double murder case following a shooting incident on 2023-09-16 at about 21:30 at Surdown Walk, Hanover Park, where two persons a female aged 51 and a male age 41 were shot and fatally wounded. SAPS members received a complaint of shooting on their arrival at the scene they found two people one female and one male with gunshot wounds on their bodies lying on the road. The female had sustained a gunshot wound on the head and right leg and the male had sustained a gunshot wound on the chest and they were declared dead on the scene by ambulance personnel”, added van Wyk.

Police say they’re investigating both incidents.

The Hanover Park CPF’s, Yaseen Johaar says killings in that area have now concerning become the norm.

“The shooting never stops. Politicians and others will always say everything is under control. It is never been under control for the last six months the shootings have never been under control, whatever one says that things are different, that’s not true. Based on that we should not be surprised if killings are continuing”.
