All eyes are on whether President Cyril Ramaphosa will send the contentious Basic Education Laws Amendment Bill back to Parliament.
The legislation is currently on the President’s desk for sign-off.
But, newly appointed Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube, wants it sent back for review.
It’s publicly well-known that her party, the DA, opposes the controversial Bill.
During a debate in Parliament last week, Gauteng Premier Panyaza called on Ramaphosa to go ahead and sign the Bill.
Gwarube says it’s up to the President now.
Gwarube concedes that there are vital features of the Bela Bill that need to be retained, but she says people’s issues about the bill can’t be ignored.
