Security will be strengthened at our courts.
That’s the promise made by the Justice Department.
Deputy Justice Minister, Andries Nel, along with Western Cape Judge President Nolwazi Mabinda-Boqwana, conducted a walkabout at the Athlone Magistrate’s Court, on Monday.
It follows a deadly shooting incident at that courthouse, last Friday.
Authorities are concerned that such incidents will instil fear in witnesses, who need to testify in criminal matters.
Nel says they won’t allow criminals to impact their work.
Some members of the public are still not convinced, though.
