The George District Hospital is the latest facility to be exempt from rolling blackouts.
The Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital, Groote Schuur Hospital and Tygerberg are already on the list.
Last week, the Western Cape Health and Wellness Department requested that 19 other facilities across the province be exempt from load shedding.
Out of that number, eleven are in the Cape Town Metro.
Several of these facilities are on the municipality’s electricity grid.
The department’s Dr Saadiq Kariem, says they continue to engage with authorities to get more hospitals on the list of exemptions.
“ We are pleased that we have a favourable response from the George Municipality. We also have a good with the City of Cape Town, and we are in discussion with the City for the remaining hospitals in the Metro to also be exempted from load shedding”.
