Things are looking up for South African consumers – with yet another fuel price drop on the cards, come midnight on Tuesday.

The Department of Mineral Resources and Petroleum Resources says that the price of both 93 and 95-octane petrol will drop by 92 cents per litre.

Diesel prices will decrease by between 79 cents per litre and  R1.05 cents per litre.

Users of illuminating paraffin will pay R1.03 cents less per litre – with LP gas expected to decrease by 10 cents per kilogram.

This brings the fuel price to its lowest level since early 2023.

Here’s Stellenbosch Economics Professor, Maarten Van Doesburg, with what the main drivers behind the price dip are.

The Reserve Bank’s Monetary Policy Committee is also more than likely to cut the repo rate this month.

Van Doesburg says, all these factors will, no doubt, fair well with consumers.
