More allegations of discrimination have surfaced against the German International School in Cape Town.

Last month, Heart FM News told the story of South African teachers at the school claiming that a culture of discrimination and unfair treatment of non-Germans exists there.

In this latest case, we spoke to a mother who claims that her child was denied admission to the school for Grade 1 because they are a mixed-race family.

She says there are at least two other families who’ve had a similar experience.

JinXi Giard – a Chinese woman married to a German man – says the reasons given for her child’s rejection from the school, don’t stack up …

Giard says it’s also emerged that born-and-bred German children are being accepted to the school, even if their parents don’t have permanent residency …

In response to these claims, the German school says it firmly rejects any claims of discrimination and that its admissions process is fair, inclusive and in the best interest of the child.

The school says it sets a high-bar when it comes to speaking German, and that proficiency in the German language plays a crucial role in the admissions process.
