The Nyanga Community in Cape Town, is appealing to the police to track down those behind the recent mass shooting in the area.

The bodies of three men and a woman were discovered inside a shack at Lloyd informal settlement, on Sunday evening.

Police spokesperson Colonel Andrè Traut says the motive of the attack is unknown at this stage.

“Police members were summoned to the crime scene in Lloyd informal settlement in Govan Mbeki Road at around 21:40 where the bodies of three men and one female in their twenties were discovered with gunshot wounds inside a shack. A fifth victim was admitted to hospital, also with a gunshot wound.   The motive for the attack on the victims is yet to be determined and the suspects are still being sought by detectives attached to the Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes Unit”.

The Community Policing Forum says it’s shocking as that area is not among the problematic ones in that township.

Chairperson Dumisani Qwebe says they don’t want to see any retaliation.

“We want to speak to the law enforcement agencies to assist us in terms of the investigation to know what the motive behind this [mass shooting] is. To understand what can be done to prevent potential murder that could take place, we need to understand they might be retaliation”.
