Deputy speaker of the Western Cape Legislature, Beverley Schäfer, is in hot water after she allegedly failed to return an official vehicle.
An independent report into alleged wasteful expenditure was tabled before members of parliament for consideration last week.
Schäfer apparently refused to downgrade her luxury SUV, after her tenure as MEC of Economic Opportunities, Tourism and Agriculture ended in 2019.
It’s understood Speaker Masizole Mnqasela has to determine the amount of money that has to be recovered.
The ANC’s Khalid Sayed says the recommendations must be implemented immediately.
“This public funds of the legislature must be recovered from those responsible, and it must be put back into the purse of the legislature because these are public funds.”
