The Speaker of the Western Cape Legislature Masizole Mnqasela has expressed his sadness at the passing of former MPL, Basil Kivedo.
The 71-year-old died earlier this week.
He served as a member of the provincial legislature between 2014 and 2019.
During his tenure as DA MPL, he held several positions within different committees including as a Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Education, member of the Chairpersons’ Forum, alternate member of the Rules Committee, and member of the Standing Committee on Cultural Affairs and Sport.
Kivedo was also the mayor of the Breede River Valley Municipality from 2011 until 2013.
Mnqasela says Kivedo was a selfless leader.
“Kivedo was able to balance his love for his province and the advancement of its interests with the vision of a world in which conflict is reduced and humanity is able to live in conditions of peace and tolerance”.
