Foot and Mouth Disease has popped up in North West, with two farms now under quarantine.

The alarm was raised when a private vet noticed something odd on a farm in JB Marks, and lab tests later confirmed the infection.

Then, at an abattoir in Madibeng, signs were missed during early checks but caught on the slaughter line.

The remaining animals were returned to a Ventersdorp feed-lot under strict control.

Both farms have since been locked down, meaning no animals or animal products can be moved.
