Authorities continue to investigate the deaths of several children across South Africa after they consumed snacks bought from spaza shops.
So far they’ve suspected a food-borne illness.
But what are these?
CPUT Food scientist Dr. Zanephyn Keyser says food-borne illnesses are caused by micro-organisms.
He adds that food poisoning, in particular, is a result of biological contamination involving these organisms.
Keyser explains the difference between food-borne illnesses and other forms of contamination.
He says parents should look out for the following symptoms.
