
Five people arrested in connection with plans to kidnap a Chinese businesswoman in Ottery, appeared in Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
Over the weekend, the complainant alerted the police after she saw that a vehicle had been following her since she left her business premises.
The suspects – aged between 20 and 30 – are facing charges of conspiracy to commit a kidnapping, fraud, and possession of a prohibited firearm.
“Police reacted with speed and pulled over the vehicle in question. In the car, a prohibited firearm with ammunition was discovered. Also, vehicle license plates that did not match the disc displayed on the vehicle were discovered.” – Novela Potelwa, Western Cape police spokesperson.
