The recent spate of suspected food poisoning cases has reached the country’s highest office-bearers.

Cabinet says the government is giving the issue its full attention.

The matter was high on the agenda of this week’s Cabinet meeting.

Food-borne illnesses and fatalities have been recorded in various parts of the country in recent weeks, including Gauteng, Mpumalanga, the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and the Free State.

23 people including school learners, have died in Gauteng alone.

Minister in the Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni says a family meeting will take place soon.
