The suburb of Eerste River has been plagued by a string of shootings in recent weeks.
In the latest incident, a man was shot dead while six others were wounded in an apparent gang-related attack.
It happened along Forest Drive on Friday.
Last week Monday, a 14-year-old from Mitchells Plain, Naeema Marshall, was shot dead by a 14-year-old boy in New Forest Village.
Marshall was killed while visiting relatives in Eerste River.
Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, says no arrests have been made in connection with Friday’s shooting at this stage.
“Kleinvlei police registered a murder and six attempted murder cases following a shooting incident on 2023-07-21 at about 12:20 in Forest Drive, Russel Rest, Eersterivier , where seven persons aged between 18 and 35 were shot and injured. They were all taken to nearby hospitals for medical treatment where one of the victims died due to injuries sustained. Circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation. Motive can be gang-related. No arrest as yet, investigation continues”.
At the same time, Community Safety and Police Oversight MEC Reagan Allen has expressed concern at the latest shooting.
He says the suspects involved in this incident must be found quickly and face the full might of the law.
“I urge anyone with information to make it available to law enforcement agencies so that perpetrators can be arrested, convicted and placed behind bars where they belong. I also intend to visit this police station in due course. Among others, the police station has a police population ratio of one police officer for every 736 residents”.
