No one should provide a security service without being registered.

That’s according to the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority.

Five people were taken into custody in Delft this week, for this very reason.

Vanessa Le Roux, who’s the founder of Parents of Equal Education South Africa was notified about their arrests on Monday.

Le Roux is upset.

She says many of them are community safety volunteers who provide crucial services at schools in Delft, a known crime hotspot.

Security expert, Bradley Steyn, believes this incident was heavy-handed.

In its response to HeartFM News, PSIRA says it has received information that various schools in the province use the services of unregistered security officers and service providers during the school holidays.

This, it says, is also in contravention of the Private Security Industry Regulation Act 56 of 2001.
