The DA has formally suspended the Speaker of the provincial legislature, Masizole Mnqasela from all party activities.

The party says the decision was taken following the findings of the investigation by its Federal Legal Commission.

Mnqasela’s suspension emanates from reports from whistle-blowers alleging that he filed fraudulent claims for subsistence, travel and entertainment.

His party says the FLC the allegations were credible.

Mnqasela who’s the political head in Overberg will remain his position as the Speaker.

DA provincial chairperson Jaco Londt says Mnqasela will face the disciplinary action.

“The DA Western Cape’s Provincial Executive Committee decided to suspend Mr Masizole Mnqasela from party activities pending the finalization of an investigation and/or the institution of disciplinary proceedings against him. Mr Mnqasela was given an opportunity to provide reasons why he should not be suspended, which he did. After careful consideration, the party decided to move to suspension”.
