ANC Secretary General, Fikile Mbalula, says the initial agreement with the DA had been to elect one of its members to the Deputy Speaker position in the Gauteng Government of Provincial Unity.

Mbalula addressed the media yesterday, to provide an update on the impasse there.

Three members of the DA would be given MEC positions, and 6 others are scheduled to take office as committee chairpersons in the legislature.

But, Mbalula says the DA had declined this proposal and demanded more.

The DA in Gauteng believes its decision to walk away from the Provincial Legislature was a right one.

The party’s Solly Msimanga says the ANC’s proposal of seats fell short of the requirements set out in Clause 16 of the Declaration of Intent.
