The Nyanga policing precinct seems to be drifting backward again when it comes to crime statistics.

On Monday, the Western Cape police management presented a province-specific look at the first quarter crime stats.

In the previous quarter – between January and March – there was significant attention drawn to Nyanga exiting the notorious top ten worst performers list.

But it crashed back up to the sixth worst in the country between April and June.

During the same period, it also drifted from sixth worst for murder, back up to fourth.

Based on the January to March crime stats, authorities eagerly wanted Nyanga to shake off the tag of the nation’s murder capital.

Provincial Police Commissioner, Thembisile Patekile, has suggested a few possible reasons for the increase.
