A 32-year-old man accused of starting four fires on the slopes of Table Mountain has appeared in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on a charge of arson.
Congolese national, Barnard Ndamdele was caught with petrol and other fire-making materials and arrested on Tuesday.
As expected, the State’s requested a postponement to obtain bail information.
It’s also asked that the suspected arsonist be held at the Cape Town Police Station’s holding cells so that he can be examined by the district surgeon.
But it’s not completely clear why.
The City’s JP Smith says they’ll be keeping a special eye on this case.
“The City of Cape Town Safety and Security Internal Investigations Unit will conduct watching briefs and a shadow investigation in support of Saps and track carefully this case which is of significant public interest,” adds Smith.
The man is expected back in court on April 12th.
