In another fatal hit-and-run incident, involving a member of the SAPS, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate has arrested a 46-year old police officer in George.
He’d allegedly knocked over two toddlers, aged 3 and 4, on Nelson Mandela Boulevard in Thembalethu, on the 29th of July.
The four-year-old didn’t survive.
IPID’s Phaladi Shuping details the charges the cop now faces.
This follows Monday’s incident in which an officer, linked to the Presidential Protection Services, had committed suicide.
He’d allegedly tried to cover up his involvement in a crash on KZN’s Phoenix Highway in which a 26-year-old woman had been killed in a hit-and-run.
KZN police say the officer had killed himself, following word that his colleagues were closing in on him.
