In the past five months alone, at least 63 children were killed in areas including Manenberg, Mitchells Plain, and Nyanga.
The Western Cape has a new Children’s Commissioner, Sarah Roberts.
She says her office is tackling poverty, violence, and education to aid child protection.
Activists and organisations are urging her to be visible and proactive.
Roberts says she’ll heed the call, vowing to bring real change.
She reports to the legislature.
Opposition parties are demanding a capable Children’s Commissioner.
