Taxi association, CODETA wants the Western Cape Education Department to consider also giving learner transport tenders to its members.
CODETA says it’s been requesting consideration for contracts for some time – but there’s never been a favourable response from the department.
Education MEC, David Maynier said they’ve already signed contracts with other service providers.
Some scholar transport operators say they were intimidated by taxi operators in Khayelitsha last week.
But CODETA has denied that its members are behind these incidents.
Regional secretary Nceba Enge says they still want to engage with education authorities in the province.
“What I can state is that we are frustrated with the Western Cape Education Department for ignoring our plea because we’ve been trying to schedule a meeting with them but in vain. We are still looking forward to meeting the education department regarding scholar transport”.
