A City of Cape Town official is embroiled in a sexual assault scandal.

Unathi Lasiti – a proportional representation councillor – made a court appearance at the start of the week.

It’s related to a sexual assault incident that allegedly took place back in 2015.

On Monday, the matter was postponed for further investigation, while the accused is believed to be out on bail.

His alleged victim, Zintle Khobeni De Lange, has now spoken out.

“I really do hope that those whom he victimized… come forward and those he victimized before me or during that time of my time, then they must be encouraged to come forward. If we continue to be silent about these things then we are also literally contributing to the scourge of gender-based violence that’s happening in our country and we must not do that any longer.”

According to reports, Lasiti’s lawyer claims De Lange’s accusations are politically motivated.

Lasiti has not responded to Heart FM News’ request for comment.
