The City of Cape Town is appealing to residents to remain vigilant and minimise unwanted fires during this winter.
This warning comes from cold and wet conditions that have already started in some parts of the country.
A number of people have been killed in several fire incidents in the City, especially in informal settlements over the past week.
A total of 920 fire incidents have been reported in the Mother City, between July and August 2021.
The Municipality says it conducts education and awareness outreach programmes to highlight fire risks.
Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith says residents must always be prepared.
“We can do even better through the assistance of the residents who can improve their safety at home. It’s a scary topic, but it really ought to be a conversation that is had in all households, to make sure that everyone knows how to decrease the risk of a fire, what to do in the event that a fire breaks out, and most importantly, who to call.”
