The City of Cape Town’s investigating unit is assisting police with its investigation into the murder of a LEAP Officer.

Twenty-three-year-old Alessandro Heynes – who was a member of the City’s police programme – was on his way from a matric ball in Elsies River last Thursday, when he was robbed and shot.

Community Safety and Police Oversight MEC, Reagan Allen, says Heynes sustained a head wound and later died in hospital.

Allen added that two suspects were involved in the incident, but only one has been arrested thus far.

“As the investigations into this incident continues, I’d like to urge anyone with information to contact all law enforcement agencies involved so that the second suspect can also be arrested. Whoever committed this hideous crime does not deserve to walk freely in our streets… these criminals have signed their freedom away.”
