PRASA says the work to repair the Central Line remains suspended for this week.
The recovery work along the line at the Bonteheuwel, Heideveld and Netreg stations, had been put on hold after several extortion attempts.
Contractors have been threatened by armed gangsters, demanding them to stop the operations.
It’s not the first time that operations have been suspended for a period of time.
In June, two PRASA contractors were shot and injured in Kalksteenfontein.
The gunmen were intent on stealing the copper cables before they were even relayed as part of the repair works.
Western Cape Metrorail spokesperson Zino Mihi says they’re still discussing plans to beef up security.
“The contractors who are working on the Central Line recovery project are not back at work, after security threats at Bonteheuwel, Heideveld and Netreg stations. Currently, PRASA is putting together plans that will ensure the resumption of work by contractors start next week”.
