Former Police Minister, Bheki Cele, has defended his decision to meet with crime accused, Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala.

He made the comments, while testifying in the Parliament’s ad hoc committee last week.

The forum is probing allegations, that police and politicians are infiltrated by cartels.

The pair met in Durban in December last year, after the police raided Matlala’s home.

He had not been charged, yet.

Cele says Matlala wanted to inform him, about suspended deputy national police commisssioner, Shadrack Sibiya’s plans, against Crime Intelligence Head,Dumisani Khumalo.

Cele says his involvement in the meeting, was to protect Khumalo, not Matlala.
