Taxi association, the Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association, Cata has rejected any plans to roll out MyCiTi buses to the Nyanga area.
The City of Cape Town has plans to renovate the local terminus soon.
The work will include the construction of a new MyCiTi station as part of the rollout of buses to the Mitchells Plan and Khayelitsha areas.
Residents and interested parties will start to give their input about the plans from Wednesday the 9th of November until the 2nd of December 2022.
“I urge commuters and operators from Nyanga to please attend the information day where officials will answer their questions. This facility is intended to serve the local community, and the public participation process is an important opportunity to contribute and influence the final design”. Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas,
But the taxi association is unhappy with the design, saying it won’t accommodate all their taxis.
CATA spokesperson Nkululeki Sityebi says they don’t want the service to operate in the area.
“ As the CATA region, we have made ourselves clear that we don’t want MyCiTi. We can’t share the route with MyCiTi who’s subsided by government, of which the taxi industry isn’t. So you can’t compare us with people who receive intensives at the end of the month”.
