Taxi association, CATA, has rejected claims that it’s behind the attacks on Intercape busses and employees in Cape Town.
The long-distance transport company’s busses are believed to be targeted at its headquarters and pick-up points near the Crossroads and Nyanga areas.
It’s understood that the campaign of violence and extortion against the long-distance coach industry, but CATA’s Nkuleko Sityebi says they have nothing to do with the attacks.
Sityebi says they are also victims of the crime.
“[There are] certain areas that our vans… our drivers… have been targeted and have been mugged, have been shot. Unfortunately, those things are not being covered by the media… So those things that are happening, we are also facing that challenge by the taxi industry as well.”
