With less than 10 days to go until Easter, extra measures are being put in place to keep motorists and roads safe.
Just last week, officers in Cape Town arrested 41 suspects and issued more than 40,000 fines for various traffic offences.
According to Mayco member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, among those was the arrest of two suspects – with a total of 73 warrants for their arrest.
Smith say he hopes the department’s action is a clear message to those who think they are above the law.
“Our traffic officers took nearly 1 500 motorists into custody for outstanding warrants, so hopefully that serves as a wake-up call to other scofflaws who clearly have no respect for traffic regulations and the rule of law”.
