At least eleven people, including a five-year-old boy, have been killed in separate gang violence incidents in Cape Town over the past few days.
The violence began with five murders in various shootings in Manenberg, on Saturday.
On the same day – two people were killed in Eastridge.
Then a day later, three people were gunned down in Nyanga.
On Monday, a five-year-old boy was killed after being struck by a stray bullet in Hanover Park.
Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith says the fight among rival gangs has been raging out of control in Manenberg and Hanover Park.
“It appears to us at least one of these gangs who is attempting to occupy a territory of another is in possession of a very significant amount of additional resources or support from gangs from other parts of the City. This is driving this constant conflict”.
